DEI issues have always been close to my heart as an immigrant and woman of color in a predominantly white field. My primary DEI related interests include exploring the intersections between environmental and social justice and learning how to apply and make this available to the community I live and work in.
It's this interest that led me to start a first of its kind Diversity course and JEDI committee in my program.
Apart from our program I have served on other DEI committees including the North American Congress on Conservation Biology and the Geography department at UNR. In my spare time I volunteer with a local mutual aid group called Washoe Food not Bombs that promotes food justice for the unhoused.
